I’m not sure if the guys t-shirt is readable, but it says “Gulf Coast Looter.”? I don’t know why these people think this is amusing, but it appears to be part of a larger resurgence in Blackface.

racism HAHAHA is this what u call this picture??? Its nothing but some white people going to a fancey dress party and going as black gang bangers. what is the problem there is none. Sad people who are probs white are calling them racists HA please grow up. Its nothing but good fun. okay i dont know about the guy who said this was all fun but as an african american i find this VERY offensive! it isnt funny at all. whats soo hilarious about a bunch of over privilage white kids painting their faces pitch black [as if all black people even looked like that] mocking the black american culture?? you white people really have no clue of how hard it is to be black….so you all need to seriously grow up before you guys walk in the wrong neighborhood, with that mentality, and get hurt.

This is a frustrating conversation as a non-racist white person. I can see why, as a black person, one could be offended by the above pictures. My concern comes from the lack of concern for the reverse. While the above is considered racism (and it could be, depending on the intent of the “offenders”), the reverse would never be considered racist. Much like black comedians constantly making fun of white people, often singling them out in largely black crowds and doing all in their power to belittle them, a group of black kids dressing up as white people would be considered potentially “edgy” or offensive, it would rarely be described as unacceptable racism “mocking white culture”.
I don’t condone or convict the actions above as I have know knowledge of the intent… however I do not condone today’s culture that allows a free pass for all potential racism vs. white people and is quick to call anything slanted vs. blacks as racism.

Wow! Okay here is some clarification. It “IS” Racist. They may have not meant it to be, but it is offensive and racist. Now I’ve never seen a black person dress as a white person to be “edgy”, or whatever, so I don’t know where that comment came from. But either way, weather or not black people do it, or White people do it, or whoever, it’s still wrong. Just because one person or even race would do it, dosen’t make it right, so stop trying to defend it, and call it for what it is, just plain wrong, offensive and racist. And that goes for every thing else people do. Example, Jordz’s comments were extrmely racist and wrong, with his comments about blacks and micheal jackson, and use of the word jap, instead of japanese, etc…. Am I complaining, No, because there are many ignorant people out there, so you have to learn to get use to it, you can still get mad about it sure thats okay, but make sure you don’t let it get to you; I know its hard but still.
And finally. Stop using the reverse to make your racism right. Just because for some minorities, they may be able to do something and get away with it even though it is actually racist, and the mass of society dosen’t see it that way, does NOT make it right to make rasicist actions back towards them. Instead try to change society’s way of thinking about it so that they realize all racist actions are racist, no matter who it comes from, and no matter what their race.

The Looter Joke is inarguably upsetting, I’m not going to justify these pictures, but getting upset over a couple of white kids painting themselves black is pointless. I wouldn’t consider it “mocking” black culture any with the negative conotations of the word any more than Dave Chappelle “mocks” white culture when he paints himself white and plays the role of the cliche ignorant white reporter. In fact I don’t know anyone who doesn’t find it funny when he does so, I do. Do I find it racist when he does? No. Do I find a couple of white kids doing the same thing racist? No. The majority of my good friends are black and I am engaged to a black girl so I have my share of insight on what black life is like and I stand to fight racism but being too easily offended is digression, it will get you nowhere. Racism doesn’t come from people trying to be funny, it’s comes from the fact that suburban people have a complete wrong misconseption of black culture, of how they are still treated and what life is like for them. In fact, maybe trying to be black is exactly what they need!

Do you really think black skin looks like black shoe polish? If you really think ANYONE was thinking that white teenagers and young adults at a party were really black, you are not living in a reality I recognize.

Do you really think that a portraying a clueless reporter (not justifying whiteface, just saying) in a dramatic parody is on par with a Halloween costume ridiculing the suffering of thousands of people (white, black, latino, Asian) in one disaster while using a mocking technique with a long sordid history?

Do you really think being born black gives your friends an automatic awareness of what is or is not funny or acceptable to the majority of black people? Funny thing is, people can be just as biased and clueless about their own people as any other group.

Look up the history of minstrelsy and blackface. Yellowface and redface too while you’re at it. And tell us that it’s harmless.

Explain to me why 2 of the Wayans brothers can dress up as white women. From the complaints here, black people are very aware that dressing as another race and ridiculing it is a nasty thing to do. But find me a black person who will denounce the White Chicks movie without being prompted.

I see nothing here ridiculing anyones suffering. If anything is being “mocked” here, as I said, it’s their own (inarguably ignorant) perception of modern black culture, which is the same thing you see on Dave Chappelle and White Chicks. There is NO difference. They’re all dramatic parodies of very modern cultures, not historicle references to past suffering. There no evidence of that. My comment must have been misread, considering some assume I’m enough of an ignorant tool to use my relations as justifications for anything. I don’t expect my opinion to be “justified” by me trying to “prove” I’m not racist. The point was to understand that I’m A. Not as ignorant and simple minded as those who participated in these pictures, thus I’m am not at all trying justify their actions (Their undoubtedly idiots) and B. I myself have to work through racism. I don’t care what the majority of anybodys opinion is, but I see racism MUCH worse than this on a DAILY basis that should be taken care of, and focusing on this is halting progress.

It is up to us to use our brains in which way we want. If you choose to be racist then that’s your choice. But if you choose to judge someone by their character and not by their skin color then you’d be a lot better off. You’d be living.

The first step to racial healing is for whites to stop telling minorities what they should and shouldn’t be offended by.

Secondly, whites have no right to tell minorities that they’re not racist. That’s not for you to declare but rather what we tell you. If we see someone making racist statements or actions, we’re going to tell you. Telling us that you’re not racist is akin to George Bush saying “trust me.”

Thirdly, please don’t compare blackface/redface/yellowface to Dave Chappelle and “White Chicks.” Chappelle and the Waynes brothers created their respective skits and movie *because* of blackface/redface/yellowface. Also, these types of colored faces applied to whites were rooted in racist acts and discriminatory practices (such as not wanting blacks to be media pictures).

Finally, stop comparing white racial issues with minority racial issues. They’re not the same and they’re not equal.

I’ve never seen so many whites be so ignorant but fight with so much conviction.

Ann and Rob were right on to say about white arrogance and denial when it comes to race and racial issues. Majority of whites DO NOT want to deal with it period. That’s why they cover up a lot of crimes against People of Color in the past 500 years. The white elite has a lot to do with them and they twist the facts or deny them outright.

I feel sorry to live in such a society where white people have to mock People of Color through the use of steretypically themed parties performed in college campuses in recent times. Especially young upper class whites who are the ruling class of tomorrow.

True. “Pure as the driven snow” is a Biblical reference. White America has done much wrong to her black citizens and has yet to acknowledge the numerous cruelties done, many cruelties which were still being committed up to only 45 years ago.

Yes, white America cannot cop an attitude with her black citizens considering the way she has treated black people for over 400 years, and counting.

And yes, there have been decent white people who strove to treat black people as human beings during slavery, Reconstruction and segregation. But, they were crushed or beat down for being “nigger lovers”. Yes, they may have not had their voices listened to, but, they lived and fought against white supremacy in the best way they could. They often are not remembered, but whether well-known (Viola Luizzo, Lillian Smith, Goodman and Scwherner, to name a few), or the lone white man or woman who protected a black person from harm, the above comment was meant for the MANY white people who went out of their way to destroy black people.

And their actions are remembered the most (because the facts of the atrocities stand out the most), as opposed to the ones I mentioned who risked life to see a better life for all the citizens of this country.

True. Which is why white America and black America are STILL in this together. We may have come over on different ships (Mayflower/Amistad), but, this is still the only country that we have. Because there was minstrel acts back in the day does NOT mean “White Chicks” was some kind of deep meaning, societal slap retribution flick.

Tell you what, I am making a movie called “Black Chicks” and it stars Haylie Duff and Amber Tamblyn in black face with pillows stuffed in the ass of their jeans and they are working undercover at a Nail Salon under their boss Queen Latifah in the hood as they try and catch two nefarious drug dealers. But the twist is, they fall in love with the thugs they are trying to catch. And then they have to let them know they are really white, and its….its…. funny…….and so uplifting.

The soundtrack features Kanye West and Michael Stipe. Movie hits theaters in November.

I know this sounds idiotic, but everyone might want to calm down a bit. First of all, however stupid this “Gulf Coast Looter” might be, nobody was physically injured, nobody was attacked, nobody was face-to-face insulted. If these fools want to do stupid crap in their own backyards or parties or whatever without directly challenging or harassing any African Americans or whoever else, I’m not particularly worked up about it. It is *their* backyard after all, and me telling these guys how to relax would be as stupid as them telling me what games I should play on *my* computer.
White Chicks and Chapelle’s activities were performances: those people were trying to make money by doing something some people find amusing. They were acting, because they need to come up with funny stuff that sells so they can feed their families, too. The mocking of a different ethnic group was a joke founded in stereotypes, because mocking or manipulating stereotypes is something many people find funny. The cartoon Tom and Jerry involves the stereotypical interactions of cats and mice: does this imply the creators think all cats and mice interact just like that or that all viewers should believe all cats and mice behave in that way? Well, no. People just find it funny. Take it up with the psychology of the human race, not the actors. I don’t find many race-based jokes amusing, but I am Jewish and I did laugh through the song “You Won’t Succeed on Broadway (If You Don’t Have Any Jews)” from Spamalot when I first heard it. I think these guys are stupid, not funny, but then I know some Jewish people who were offended by the (supposedly anti-Semetic) song from Spamalot.
Overall, can we all just take a deep breath and move on?

From an African American: Why did the 50 individuals dress up as Native Americans during the Boston Tea Party? The men were trying to prove a point to the British, but decided it was best to hide their identity and what better way to do that than to dress like an Indian right? I am first generation American. My parents are from Nigeria so I am considered to be an African American by the standards that have been set forth, but I would say my point of view is different from most multi-generational African Americans. I have a minor Sociology, and we had discussions like this many times. The fact of the matter is that we live in a society that allows blacks to degrade whites, and people laugh, but when whites people degrade blacks, it is racist. However, both situations are inherently racial. If I were at the party, I would be offended. The picture is a still shot, a moment in time, and I am sure that those people dressed in blackface were saying things and acting out things that would shock many people. Racism still exists, however, at least this is a passive form of racism. We have come a long way, but I hope this picture shows us we still have a ways to go. I wish that the individuals in this picture, just like the members of the Boston Tea Party, could have dressed up like their own selves.

Why do you think most people with money and power are white males? Think they’re just better, smarter than everyone else? If a white person wants to imitate another white person, they can dress up, do their hair, and act in the same mannerisms. Same goes for a black person imitating another black person. But if a white person wishes to imitate a black person, or vice-versa, then makeup is almost certainly going to be necessary or at least useful. But somehow, that makes the white person a racist and the black person funny. Suppose a white person wanted to imitate Bill Cosby.. not to make fun of him as a black man, but to make fun of the way he talks about Jell-o pudding. Having short black hair and wearing an ugly sweater is a start, but to be for to be instantly recognizable as a Bill Cosby, blackface would be a must.

FYI – The kid in that picture dressed up as the “Gulf Coast Looter” is not being racist, he’s making fun of bigotry in the press. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina some newspapers showed white people taking things from stores, and said they were scavenging for survivial. Then there were other pics of blacks doing the same, and they were called looters. There is a well-known pic of a black man wading through waist-deep water carrying a tub of Heine’s, and that is who this kid is imitating in order to make the point about racism and bigotry in the press.

All of you who called that kid a racist… SURPRISE! The racist is you. You saw one pic of a white kid dressed as a black man and instantly assumed him to be a racist. How’s that for judging people by the color of their skin?

As a black male I have to admit I do not find it offensive at all. People have to realize, whites only do these things out of jealousy. On average whites have always had more mental disorders than any other type of people, so doing things like this is the only way to cope. So to all my fellow black people just laugh at the ingnorance. If they anything they know that real black men are clean cut, clean shaven and well groomed such as: Barack Obama, Martin Luther King, Stan Oneal (ceo of Merrill Lynch), Charles Phillips (president of Oracle), Richard Parsons (ceo of Time Warner) and Ken Chenault (ceo of American Express). You say that he’s making fun of bigotry in the press, but I disagree with that. He’s not making fun of bigotry in the press, he is going along with the press in sterotyping blacks trying to get food as looting.

I believe that when Dave Chappelle and the Wayans brothers acted as the white race, it was meant to be funny. They are actors, it is what they do. When they are in this character mode, they don’t mean to be racist, they just do it because these are things that America finds funny.

I think when the tables are turned and whites paint thier faces black and dress likes “thugs and gangbangers”, it IS very offensive because not all black people are in that category. DO YOU EVER SEE A WHITE PERSON IN BLACK PAINT DRESSED IN A SUIT WITH A BRIEF CASE IN THIER HAND??? NO. Because some white people don’t even see us blacks gettting that far.

Now I do agree that not all white people talk “nerdy” or say “like” after every word. But some blacks feel like we (our ancestors) have been through so much over the years, and for some whites to have this sterotypical attitude is ridiculous.

Overall, RACISM IN AMERICA STILL EXISTS!!! But when is it going to come to an end???

Wow. This is hypocritical. If black people want this to stop, then we need to stop it too. eg White Chicks. Life doesnt work that way. You cant complain about a situation and practice it yourself. This is not to say all black or white people practice that insulting rubbish but you get the drift. I must say, I am completely in shock by the comments that followed these pics. Not only were racists comments made in almost every post, but everyone assumed the other’s race without having a clue.

Everyone asks/request that racism in America end, that we all find some kind of unity, but how can we?? How can we find any unity or peace between the races when everyone harbors their own racism. Can one race be prejudice and the other racist while holding the same views? No. A prejudice is a “pre-judging” of a person, place or thing, while racism goes deeper than that. Not only do you pre-judge a person by race but you also group that class of people together and judge them accordingly. I have yet to see an example on this board that could be classified as prejudice, but sure enough racist.

Did the pictures upset me, yes, but I think the comments that followed topped them instantly. How can the African American society ask that White Americans end their racism while harboring some form of racism towards them? How can the White American society ask or say what is racist or what should be viewed as such when they haven’t experienced it as the African American culture has? How can anyone excuse racism after knowing what it is, how it affected them, what it feels like and that it comes from ignorance…isn’t that being ignorant in-and-of itself?

I don’t know how the comments about these pictures ventured away from the obvious and became what it did, but apparently racism is running deeper than even I wanted to realize in all races. If these guys in the pictures are racist, wouldn’t it make them racist and not the entire White American race? How can anyone use one example (“White Chicks”) of racism to okay another?

I don’t know what America will come to, I know where it has been and how hard it was to get where we are, but I think we are a lazy people. It’s easier for all of us to make excuses for the reasons we feel the way we do instead of taking the time to get to know each of our neighbors as themselves. There will be some we don’t like, but we won’t like them as an individual – isn’t that what makes us different afterall.

That’s one reason Dave Chappell’s show at this point in time is comedy centrals largest selling dvd (or second largest something like that). Millions of white people love that show and most sistas & brothas I know do too, and yet he continually pokes fun at both culture’s negative attitudes. How does adrian’s point stand when so many white and Black people love Dave Chappell but nearly all Black people and a good chunk of white americans cringe at the sight of a white person ‘doing coonface.’ It’s because of the history behind the act, not necessary the act itself.

I, as a black citizen of this country will get over it (translation: let my guard, ergo, my defenses down, of white-run America), when the following occurs:

-When black people no longer have located in or adjacent to, their neighborhoods hazardous waste materials, dead animal incinerator plants or trash landfills;

-When black people’s culture, which just to let you know, is America’s culture (language, foods, music, etc., starting during slavery all the way up to the present) , is no longer disparaged as pathological and dysfunctional;

-When black people are no longer racially profiled;

-When black men/women are no longer given prison sentences that are longer, or harsher, than prison sentences given to white men/women, for the same crime;

-When black people are no longer mocked and denigrated by the white-run, white-controlled media, with its over-abundance of racial, classist, and sexual/gender stereotypes;

-When black students recieve a better education than what they are now receiving, an education that in no way prepares them for a life as a productive citizen;

-When privileged white people who scream and rant, “Black people are taking all our jobs,” cease their lying, because as facts prove, white people overwhelmingly have the more higher paying jobs than black people, mainly because they have had a better education that prepared them for these high-paying jobs;

-When white-run America decides to have a conscience and funnels money into the inner cities/urban areas to build up their infrastructures, the way white-run America built up the white suburbs with the G.I. Bill, which helped white WW II G.I. veterans be able to buy and own a home in the suburbs, all the while, black G.I. veterans (both male, and female) were overwhelmingly denied this right, especially in the American South, via racist loopholes around the true intent of the G.I. Bill. Not to mention denying black WW II veterans the right to a higher education with the exclusion of black veterans from many institutions of higher learning;

-When black people are able to rent an apartment or home of their choice anywhere in America, without having the realtor/landlord speak to the black person on the phone, only to have them tell the black person when they show up in person, “This is not the right area/part of town, for you. Let me show you something in this category/this geographical location.”

-When the Wealth Gap between white America and black America closes;

-When white-run America starts to truly live by the Bible, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the 10 Commandments, well, then and only then, will I be able to get over it.

And those are just a few that come to mind. (Don’t want to weigh your mind down with too much; you obviously can’t handle already the load you are carrying.)

Let me see white-run America step up to the plate and be real men and women, and not continue to be WHITE MEN AND WOMEN, since race is a social construct, race, which is destroying this country from within. No. Im pretty sure i pointed out how stupid the guys in the pic are. But what i also added was a solution. How is it you just picked up on my white chicks line, trying to compare it to bamboozled, and yet completely missed what i was trying to say? My gosh, all i am saying is, this racism has to stop. But to successfully end it, we cant have a double standard. Double standards create more animosity. We cant keep saying its wrong because of the years of slavery, but then turn and say its ok for us to do it because of what we went through. Now im not saying this for saying it sake. I believe that the pictures posted are offensive…yet it is true that the black community can call these offensive even if the white community cannot understand, and maybe that is the problem. In order to end racism we each have to understand the others culture and background to eliminate it. As a black female i feel as though our culture has, been viewed as negative because of the music industry derogatoary slang toward women and the acceptance of it, yet you will not see a white man talk this way about a white women. I is baffaling to me, in the past events of DON IMUS, people start to see the hidden racism in the world.. It seems to me that people are missing the point. Although I do have a problem with these boys dressing up in caps and chains with low hanging pants with a basketball and calling themselves black, the real problem is that they did it in blackface. First and foremost, dressing that way does not make you black, just like dressing in a suit and tie does not make you white. I am offended solely by the thought they put on outfits that thugs of all races wear and indentified themselves as black people. Now the real problem comes in their deciding that it would be funny or okay to uproot years of pain and horror. The days of the minstrel shows when white men and women would put on blackface with shoe polish, grease, or coal, accentuate their features to emmulate those of black people and proceed to put on a show, for the amusement of their white cohorts, mocking the alleged ignorance of black people. They also do blackface in Holland for Sinter Klaus ( Santa Clause ) celebrations. Ironically, as far as I know racism and white supremacism in particular are more mild in Holland than any other country in Europe. I have been to Belgium and spent a day in holland. I can say I only saw two swastikas anywere in Belgium, and neo-nazi skinheads prowel all over in most European countries, so the absence of such symbols is, I think, a good indicator of the general lack of white racism. Its a mystery that i do not understand, and I suspect it has more to do with xenophobia than actual racism. An example from my childhood might help make this clear.

When I was in grade school, our music teacher taught my class a song about two vietnamese children who were in love. Few of us knew anything about vietnamese, and the most salient thing about them from our perspective, was their slanted eyes and sing-song language. I remember how I came home stretching out my eyes and singing in mock vietnamese and laughing infront of my mom. It wasnt that i thoguht I was superior to vietnamese, it was more that they were just different, “weird”, and “funny looking”. I acted this way out of ignorance, not racism. I woudlnt be surprised, if Holland, with no history of racial segregation, and no substantial historical Black population, might culturally view blacks as “funny looking others”, withtout associating the same white supremacists attidudes, or at least as intensely, as we would do here in the states.

I can’t say that i take offense to this picture, because when i first saw it, i kinda laughed, after i found out they where white people. But when you think about it a little bit, its really stupid. First of all, they’re not portraying the black (or african american as some prefer to be called) correctly. i think that there is a misconception between prejudice and racism.
evry person on this planet makes judgemet calls on everything they come into contact with. those judgements are based off of our own individual past and trials. when a american of any color sees anyone of a different color they WILL assume thing based on thier past. as for the photos above, i am sure that this is giving them the attention the desired,. if a person who is in the minority gose to a store and expects that he/she will be watched closer by the workers that is prejudice. the assumption of anothers actions prior to any hard facts. everyone is racest to one degree or another,

since african americans are a minority in the united states they do not have power. just as mexicans and asians are also minorites they to do not have power. being the dominant race in america WHITE people have power.

Ok, im gonna start off by saying i have a natural distrust towards people of a different ethnicity than me. i dont beleive that people of different ethnicities were ever actually *meant* to get along. Sure, you might meet a friendly person who doesnt care what you look like, but in general, its fairly safe to say were all at each others throats. Equality will never work, as long as there as people who differ. As long as a person can call any other person by anything other than his/her name then hostilities will always be there. These pictures, and morover, the hostilities in posts after, show the incompatability of two seperate races. Racism is natural. theres a reason people look different. 5000 years ago people gathered in groups and formed communities and would be hostile to any outsiders, to preven any threat to their community. modern day times we have countries, who go to war against ‘foreigners’ for whatever reason. If each race/ nationality / religion/ culture etc stayed seperate, and never even came into contact with each other, we would live (on a ‘global’ scale) in a perfect world. If only humankinds other natural instinct, to ‘expand’ was subdued, hm? but then where would we be as a race as a whole? i could go on and on on this topic but i’ll end it here. Um Dan. Taking a piss is natural, eating is natural and even blowing your nose is natural. Racism is just stupid. Something that is natural is shared among everyone. Racism is not shared among everyone. And you say if everyone stayed in their respective countries the world would be perfect. Well 2 things you are forgetting, 1, as long as they are imperfect humans (and i mean ALL humans) on this planet it will never be perfect and 2 people cant help but invade invade invade and we all know how that finishes. Someone with no brain will look at someone different and go, “I hate him”. Someone with brains will actually get to know that person and their personality. I seem to be the only one on this planet who realises skin has shit all to do with a person (even though unfortunately, tv and music is trying to convince people that their colour reflects their attitude and personality and people actually follow like lemmings). But remember this, the people who act “black” or “white” (notice the quotes. You cant act a colour) never started that way. No one was born acting “black” or “white”. But as we grow our minds are moulded by our environment. Raise a black kid in a posh area and chances are he will be posh. Raise a white kid in a middle class area and chances are that kid will act middle classed. But its not cause he is white, its because his mind was moulded by his surroundings. But that doesnt account for everyone because some people can think for themselves. Oh and how can you speak for the “imcompatibilities” of races? Are all black people or white people connected at the brain where if one white person is not compatible with a black person then all white people follow suit? Here i thought it was to do with the individual. Is it an illusiion that i see MANY different people being compatible? Are my good friends and some of my family a mirage? Am i missing something? Can the same reason of incompatibility not be attached to those of the same race because we are human? Are all white people compatible? Are all black people compatible? Why would they be? Because they share the same tone? Would sharing the same tone make up for a person being a complete prick? Does sharing the same tone guarantee unity? Does colour feed who you are to your brain? Unfortunately, to ones who dont see past their own eyes this is the case. Television and music does a great job as well to convince people that someone is acting black or white. Somewhere somehow acting black or being black is like being a rapper or talking like one. And unfortunately, people get sucked in like lemmings, black people accepting the fake fact, and white people actually believing it. But any thinking person would tell you that as long as you have a brain you can act however you like. No one is programmed to act a certain way (well actually tv and pop culture has programmed a lot of drones) or a certain colour. Dan, if you are white then it is possible i am just a black version of you. Or maybe not. It wont be the colour that determines it. It would be our personalities and ways of thinking. Not one human on this planet came from another planet. We all originated here and the only thing that changes our colours and dialects are geographical location. Im not black because i am meant to be different from you, i am black because my body produces more mellanin to protect my skin from the tropical conditions. Thats why fair skinned people tan and go brown in the sun. It aint complicated. This topic requires no deep tv programme to explain. It is simple. Thats the only difference. The interesting thing that I have pulled out of all of your comments, is why its ok for blacks to rail on whites, but its not ok for whites to rail on blacks. What has been overlooked, is that whites have gained from the black exploitation… and not just blacks. Ever see Dances with Wolves? Whites historically have exploited almost every ethnic group on the planet for their own personal gain. That’s why they are in power in this country (and not trying to give it up). Whites have historically and currently demonstrated great hatred of ethnic groups, but more specifically where black people are concerned. Black people, at best have done what to white people? Nothing, except build their country, taken the scraps off the white masters table. If black people parody white culture, white people don’t get offended because there is no connected historic indignity to those parodies. When white people dress up in black face, it reminds black people of a time when they were treated less than human… less than an animal. There is a huge difference. Instead of whites trying to tell black people what is and is not racist, they might want to think about that era, when Hollywood used a white actor for every ethnic group portrayed on screen. Native Americans, Asians, Blacks and Hispanic were all acted out using white actors in “face”. White people have historically taken what they wanted from these groups without apologies, reparations or guilt. America was taken from the Native Americans. White people labeled them as savages, much like the derogatory terms historically used for blacks. Some white people think racism is dead and its ok to don this kind of dress. What they don’t understand is, when people do this, they touch a historic nerve with blacks that has never been accounted for. The flipping of the mentality back onto black people by some white people (some in this forum) shows that few white people want to take responsibility for their forefathers indignities and indiscretions… which, I don’t blame them. However, none of this will change until both sides take responsibility for what they perpetuate. These images perpetuate racism. Not because these white guys were intentionally planning to stir it up, but without knowing the historic roots of what they were doing and where it came from, they ignorantly perpetuate racist attitudes… people see these images and think this behavior is ok… Its not ok. It is difficult being of color in this country (which honestly, between television and records companies, the perception that blacks are nothing more than criminals, pimps, rappers, sports stars, rapists and drug users/pushers, other countries perceive blacks in the same way) and what white people do not understand (because honestly, when was the last time a white person was discriminated against because of the color of their skin?)is what racism feels like on the receiving end. Even in ignorance, racism still hurts and de-humanizes individuals that experience it and it is up to the individual to rise above and be the bigger person in order to survive (quite honestly, how long are blacks expected to be the bigger person?). Cholo – OK, so you’re not a mindreader – fair enough. But can you really sit there and say that these people in the photos (and those from blackface/brownface parties at colleges, etc.) were NOT intended to target specific groups and use/abuse sterotypes?

You could claim that it wasn’t intentional racism if a costume was SPECIFICALLY AN INDIVIDUAL – in which case, the use of blackface/brownface would be a stupid/unintentionally insulting move, but not necessarily a racist move. Let’s say, for a school play, someone is costumed to portray John Diamond or Jim Rice (2 famous mistrel show 19th c. blackface performers) – OK then. Another example of stupidity trumping racism would be the use of blackface for one of the 3 Kings/Wise Men in a Christmas Pageant (where one of the kings has historically been portrayed as African in origin). FINE.

But anonymity of character implies a broad brush, that you are not portraying one person but a group of people… and in this case, that “group” is a racial/ethnic one, and the imagery used denigrates that group.

Wow. So many things said. So many good points. And so many stupid ones. I will come and say right off the bat that any form of racism is wrong, whether it comes from whites, blacks, or otherwise.

I may be an african-american, but I am certainly not biased. I would never condone any form of racism by a black against whites, because that is by no means acceptable. So yes, all those you mentioned (wayans, chapelle) are indeed wrong. Lavk of understanding for the sake of comedy is NOT okay. And yes, much more is tolerated from minority groups when it comes to “having a laugh” at other races. But please don’t use this fact to justify what was done by these teenagers. What that comes from is ignorace and sensitivity. No, they very well may not be racists. In fact, there is a 99% chance that they aren’t. But what they ARE is ignorant and isolated. So don’t be surprised if blacks are offended (like we ALL are tar-black, can’t speak proper english, shoot each other, dress in “bling,” are either “gangstas,” pimps, or moms with fifty children, have no education to speak of…shall I go on?) Why shouldn’t we be?

What we all really need to do in this world is open our eyes and look at people as individuals, NOT as a group. Understand other cultures AND people before you attempt to emmulate them (becasue you can do a poor job of it as these teens did). We need to stop using phrases like “acting black” or “acting white,” or anything else. People are people, why can’t we just leave it at that for pete’s sake??? Wow. So many things said. So many good points. And so many stupid ones. I will come and say right off the bat that any form of racism is wrong, whether it comes from whites, blacks, or otherwise.

I may be an african-american, but I am certainly not biased. I would never condone any form of racism by a black against whites, because that is by no means acceptable. So yes, all those you mentioned (wayans, chapelle) are indeed wrong. Lack of understanding for the sake of comedy is NOT okay. And yes, much more is tolerated from minority groups when it comes to “having a laugh” at other races. But please don’t use this fact to justify what was done by these teenagers. What that comes from is ignorace and insensitivity. No, they very well may not be racists. In fact, there is a 99% chance that they aren’t. But what they ARE is ignorant and isolated. So don’t be surprised if blacks are offended (like we ALL are tar-black, can’t speak proper english, shoot each other, dress in “bling,” are either “gangstas,” pimps, or moms with fifty children, have no education to speak of…shall I go on?) Why shouldn’t we be?

What we all really need to do in this world is open our eyes and look at people as individuals, NOT as a group. Understand other cultures AND people before you attempt to emmulate them (becasue you can do a poor job of it as these teens did). We need to stop using phrases like “acting black” or “acting white,” or anything else. People are people, why can’t we just leave it at that for pete’s sake??? After reading just about what everyone wrote it is clear why this country is going down the shitter. I respect your argument although I belive its fairly weak. I fail to see the correlation between anything you said and blacks hypersensitivity to racism. Corporate America exporting jobs REAL, Radical Islam REAL…I could go on forever. Wide spread and accepted racism towards blacks in America NOT so much. Moreover, not only do I see people complaing about the problems you listed I see people actually doing something about it because the problems actually exist. Your tasteless reference to 9/11 makes me wonder if you live in a cave. Americans are not complaining about 9/11 we are doing something about it. 9/11 commission maybe?? Americans demanding that something be done to make sure this never happens again?? I think Americans responded tremendously to 9/11 with adversity, ready to take care of business and holding their government accountable for any mistakes that might have been made.

You can interpret what I wrote earlier anyway you like, thats the beauty of it. But, my point was not “the past is the past” my point was that if you walk out the door every morning looking for racism thats exactly what you are going to find. Racism that is so deeply ingrained into the psyches of people who have internalized racial hatred against black Americans.

The love of “whiteness” is inescapeable. It surrounds everyone from the media that extols white beauty as the norm; from the history books that teach white-eurocentric history; from the lies our teachers told us of American history instead of the full truth on how this country was born of blood and violence.

It surrounds us in the television shows we see.It surrounds us in the concentration of much of the country’s wealth into a small white percentage of the population.

I guarantee you that living as a black woman will definately open your eyes on what life is like for black people in America.

Live your life as a black woman for just 1 year.

Take lots of notes.

For Avery and co who believe they are doing something for Africa, and that black people are better off with slavery,is very ignorant.

I grew up in afria and had a great life. It might surprise you that the images they show of africa are not the only ones that exist.

the benefits for me are that i didnt have any other race trying to bring me down. i had no hang ups when i moved back to the US at 16. My kids will be growing up in afria too.

I never knew racism was this bad. this site has opened my eyes.Its not a glowing testimony for the amerian people.

As a white person living in America, having grown up multi-culturally (in W. Africa) I am not at all afraid to say that these photos are racist, ignorant, painful, and utterly hateful. And the children engaged in this behavior have no idea what they are doing. Just like so many of the people posting on here saying things like get over it, and it is all the same if black people dress in white face as white people dressing in black face. This endemic ignorance of the experience of marginalized, oppressed and mistreated peoples in the US is pathetic and heart breaking. The concept of cultural destruction by a majority population is completely un-addressed in US school systems and is easy to miss living a white existence in America. It is very easy to look around at a “comfortably” white world and be completely unaware of the intrinsic privilege ascribed to you according to your race. It is easy to think “oh, what’s the big deal! People aren’t suffering due to racism anymore!” when there is no national recognition of the heinous, heartbreaking crimes SYSTEMATICALLY committed against black people. It is a remarkably uncomfortable experience for me, living as a white person in this country. My upbringing in Africa made me MORE comfortable with black people than white, and here, the sickness of racism has so permeated this society that deep interactions between races are difficult to find. There is simply no trust, and so much hurt that has never been addressed and is allowed to continue. It is no easy thing to be black in America. This has not, however, made African American people members of a “victim” society. Black people, through, and arguably in many instances, because of, their oppression have defined many profound artistic, scientific, social, and religious aspects of our culture. White people all over America would do very well to not become kow-towing, intimidated whipping boys, nor posturing, bravado driven stone walls, but humbled, sincere, open seekers willing to accept the sickness of our history and committed to the health of our future. Accepting the crimes inflicted upon Native people and African Americans in particular, and being mindful and sensitive to the ongoing and unaltered affect this has on the life experiences of said people will begin to change the dynamic of race in this country. And that includes being VERY careful what kind of words you use and what sort of jokes you make. Black comedians and public figures are simply not capable of inflicting the kind of harm through comments, stereo types, or jokes directed at white people that centuries of institutionalized racism has inflicted on Native and Black people.

It is as simple as this:
There are racist people in this world, and they should be punished for their beliefs. There are Non-racist people who refrain from any controversy among racist contexts, and there are those who are not racist but find humor in playing on the parodies of race. I am the third of this bunch and from my experiences in life, people do not care when joke about race are made. I have many black friends and they all find them funny. I don’t give a rats ass if someone called me cracker; i would just laugh. Now, if they actually meant it to be racist i would care, but in most cases there is no reason to get so exited over such petty things… There are more important things in life… Sure, I understand that there are some people out there who were raised by racist parents and I feel bad for them. They did not have the advantage that I had with having parents who had morals and a logical reasoning behind these sort of issues. I just feel that there is too much controversy over this issue. It is simple: this picture to me is not racist, but I do not know what went down at that party. By what i can see, there is a black woman in the left of the one photo and she has a smile on her face. This is not enough evidence to prove anything but from simple deduction, this seemed to be a mutual joke among everyone at the party. Hopefully these kids did not have any racist intentions in their actions. Everyone take a pill and realize that nothing you say will change the fact that there will always be racist individuals and there will always be those who have clouded vision on what is and is not racist. It is all about intention and that is a very uncertain thing to base assumptions on. Hopefully with time, more will realize that race does not matter in life, it is our actions that prove our morality.

Okay, something pertinent just went down, so I think I have a different perspective to offer. I’ve officially become a “black friend”… I was afraid that this would happen. I met a dude who I became friends with about a year ago… he started out as a nice guy, but he’s recently degenerated into a serious asshole of the politically incorrect variety. He makes (unfunny) racial jokes all of the time, and I think he thinks that I think it’s funny because I haven’t said anything — I guess he doesn’t care if I’m actually laughing or not. I found it objectional from the very start, but I didn’t speak up (well, I did, but in pretty vague terms, admittedly), because I was afraid of seeming touchy, or overly sensitive… in other words, I cared more about protecting his feelings than he — evidently — cared about protecting mine (not to mention not embarrassing me as both his friend and a black person). In addition to that, I thought it wouldn’t escalate… that it was just a brief phase, and that he’d return to being the decent, kind person that he once was, and that I’d briefly considered dating. Now he’s just said “ni***” as part of a joke (which I’d never heard him do before), and I told him that I was ashamed to know him. He didn’t even f***ing believe that I was serious.

So, Berne, if you REALLY care about your black friends, ask them how they feel about your jokes in a private place. Have a serious conversation with them where you’re not on the defensive, and you might be surprised by what you hear. I know this guy’s going to be surprised — and still clueless — when I stop hanging out with him. Hell, you could BE this guy… after all, this is the Innanets. This is an extremely awkward position to be in, and friends shouldn’t put each other in awkward positions.

Addendum: There’s no hypocrisy here, either. I don’t make racist jokes about other groups, I’ve never used a racial slur — including the “n word” in any of its myriad contexts — in my life (yes, a black person who doesn’t say it… we do exist), when I was in H.S., I repeatedly told other black people not to refer to me using that term, and I see a marked difference between professional comedians of any race and some random dude who consciously ignores the constraints of propriety in order to…. *shrugs* seem hip and subversive?

Okay, to start off, let’s define “racism.”

Racism – a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

Now, the last part is a “usually,” meaning, it isn’t a required part of the definition. So basically, racists, by definition, believe that, generally, people of one race or another have advantages or disadvantages as compared to other races.

Technically, even if I were to say that another race was superior to my own, it would still be racist. Would the target race complain about my racism? I don’t know. But who DOESN’T want to hear praise from an outsider? (Though funny looks may pop up as well. It really depends on the individual, I suppose.)

Nobody likes to look at this so-called “positive” racism as being just as bad. But the fact is, if we are to strive for true equality, we CANNOT have this thing called “racial guilt” for something that one “group’s” ancestors did to another “group’s” ancestors.

Yes, the events that took place were awful. (And no, I’m not just talking about one group oppressing another. I’m talking about ANY group oppressing ANY other group throughout history.) And yes, we should definitely teach these events and attempt to steer the next generation away from committing the same atrocities.

HOWEVER, telling one race that they need to make up to another race is just as racist as any other thought process based on race. Because all of the sudden, I am grouped with the worst people of my race, despite the fact that they and I may have nothing in common outside our general genetic background. I don’t appreciate that, much in the same way that many of the self-described Afro-Caribbean individuals who have posted in this thread do not appreciate being grouped with thugs/gangbangers/etc.

Now, on to the contents of the photos…

The first photo sports three Caucasian males dressed up as three Afro-Caribbean “gangstas.” Personally, I have seen people from almost EVERY race dress up like that without makeup, and quite frankly, I think it looks stupid no matter WHO is wearing it, but the fact is, anybody can wear the clothing of a “gangsta.” No arguments.

When I dress up for Halloween, I don’t dress up in something that somebody else would wear on a regular basis. Dressing up in punk-style for Halloween would be stupid, because if someone doesn’t know you, they might not know that it’s a costume. They might think that’s how you dress, and you just weren’t in the spirit of the season.

Picture this: The boys in photo 1 in the same costumes, but without the skin color adjustment. Would you know it was a costume? If not, maybe you are racist for thinking that only one race could wear the style. Coloring themselves ensures that people will know that they’re playing dress-up. Not to mention the fact that, perhaps they like, and even appreciate “gangsta” culture.

Additionally, if I were to dress up as a specific person of a race that is not my own, I would think that I would try to emulate the physical features of that individual. If I were to dress up as Count Dracula, I would probably paint myself paler, buy some cheap plastic fangs, and dress in a black cloak of some sort, as most vampires are supposed to look like that. I would also, however, find out more specific details about the individual character of Count Dracula.

Let’s apply this concept: The boys in Photo 1 were dressing up as individuals who happened to be black “gangstas.” Where do they state that every black person is a “gangsta?” Because, frankly, I don’t see that statement anywhere. It’s like saying that since Dracula has hypnotic powers, that all other vampires must as well. This, however, is not the case, as Dracula was trained in hypnotism, and most other vampires were not.

At this point, you’re probably thinking, “Why Cannon… How can you compare a fictional group, such as vampires, to the ever-so-real-and-touchy subject of race?” Because they’re both so superficial. It’s utterly ridiculous to be drawing all these lines just because you put a different curve on it that the line has had in the past.

Second picture: I don’t know what “Gulf Coast Looter” is supposed to mean. And I’m going to ignore the fact that a black girl is looking at him and smiling. What I DO know is that it is a costume. It is a costume of a specific individual that most of YOU have placed into a racial group. YOU see race when you look at that picture. I would like to know why.

One more thing before I go… I noticed a lot of people throwing around phrases such as “black culture,” “white culture,” “asian culture,” etc.

And for anyone who needs the reference I’m referring to:

Answer: Yes, I know the history of blackface. I am an animation major, so also I know of MANY banned cartoons from back in the day based off of the same principle. And the reason that blackface is bad is because it portrays black people as being naturally stupid and mentally stunted. The intent behind the plays was getting a cheap laugh at an ‘inferior’ being.

However, I never said that the photos WEREN’T intended to portray people of Afro-Caribbean descent. But I did say that they aren’t saying every every black person is stupid. As I said, they may even respect “gangsta” culture. But the fact is, they aren’t saying that all black people act as such.

And again I state: If they simply put the clothing on without makeup, would you be able to tell it was a costume? I dressed up as a zombie this halloween. I dirtied and tore up a set of old clothes, messed up my hair and whatnot.

But that isn’t enough. If I were to just do that, and you saw a picture of that, you wouldn’t think zombie. You would think homeless. I put on makeup. I grayed my face, darkened under my eyes, and used some bloody red pigments to make it look like I had been feasting on human flesh.

If they simply dressed “gangsta,” nobody would know it was a costume.

As far as the colour of the facepaint, I don’t know. I have seen a very few number of black people who actually do have a near pitch-black complexion. It’s a very few, but I have seen it. It’s also probably easier to get your hands on shoe polish than… whatever material you could put on your skin that’s a more common dark skin colour.

And you know, I don’t know what’s going through these guys’ heads. Maybe they did have poor intentions. I don’t know. But I do know that where I come from, people are supposed to be considered innocent until proven guilty. So until we know their true intentions, which we probably never will, it’s just best to let it go.

A man much wiser than me once said, “You can only be offended by the words of another if you are already offended by something within yourself.” I once told my sister that she had no real friends. This was, of course, a lie, but it offended her deeply. Much more so than it would offend me to hear that. Turns out, she already had a paranoia that she actually didn’t have any real friends because of her personality. Same applies here. You can’t be offended at this unless you’re offended at something within yourself.

So as I said, just let it go. There are much more offensive things going on in the world. There are genocides going on right now. People are being executed in the streets as I type this, and the same goes for when you will no doubt be typing back. And yet, you still find the time to be appalled at a few guys walking around with facepaint on for Halloween. You’re amazing. Really.

Lyonside: *chuckle* I wasn’t aware there was such a handbook! But jokes aside, it would be rather nice to at least attempt ridding ourselves of dangerous categorization. And that’s a lot coming from me. I once saw a machine that would separate M&M’s by colour, and I thought it was such a brilliantly novel (albeit useless) idea. But when we do the same to people… Well, people aren’t M&M’s. It’s really not okay to act like people are specimens, no matter what you use as the categories.

Okay, let me rephrase my statement about genocides going on. People much wiser than I have told me to choose my battles. Even if I think something is unjust, there are times that I just have to back down. That way, when something happens that I REALLY can’t stand for comes along, my stand against it will have a bit more power. After all, people will note that you don’t get outraged at much, so in their minds the events you stand up to matter more.

What I’m trying to say is, yeah, maybe you think what’s going on in the above photos is unjust. I disagree. But if you let this battle stand out as much as people getting killed, I don’t personally see it as a wise choice of battles. But, hey. We ARE different people.

Why am I here? Dunno. I was browsing the internet, I somehow stumbled across the page, and I thought it was an interesting debate.

I would also just like to let you know that I really respect you, Lyonside. Despite our disagreements, I have to admit, you bring up some good points. For the record, I’d like to point a few of them out.

I admit, the Gulf Coast Looter shirt (which I didn’t entirely catch the reference to, at first) is a little over-the-top. That is kind of inappropriate. What really bothers me about that picture, though, is that he didn’t colour his hands. Allow me to explain. It’s like he got sloppy. He wanted a cheap laugh, and he got it. I think, “meh,” and move on.

It’s more the guys on top that I’m standing up for. They are totally immersed in the roles they have created for themselves. And as I said before, we don’t know their intentions, and they very well could actually respect gangsta culture. Maybe that’s just how they dress, and they went as “black themselves” for Halloween, for novelty. Again I state: I don’t know. But I’m not going to judge them until I learn otherwise. As much as I hate humanity as a whole, looking for the best in people is what keeps me half-way sane.

But I would still like a response to what I said about Black Like Me. I mean, John Howard Griffin actually stepped into the shoes of a black man in 1959 America. And, yes, I know it’s a different situation, but if you’re getting so riled up over someone putting on a little face paint, when it isn’t mocking black people, (or at least, I don’t think it is, because they aren’t doing anything to imply that they think the way they are posing is stupid,) then do you get riled up at John Howard Griffin’s experiment?

So what causes do you stand for, currently, besides “the guys on top”? It’s a bit of a fallacy to imply that large and small injustices can’t be fought simultaneously… and as for people listening, most people won’t listen to anything that fetters or inconveniences them in the least, or that doesn’t directly affect them, no matter how much “credibility building through diplomacy” one does.

See, we’ve taken divergent paths on this issue… I hate humanity as a whole because I refuse to run the lot of us through a sifter. I see humanity for what it is, unvarnished, beyond bias, and have concluded that there’s not a whole lot to like. Refusing to drown myself in platitudes and turn a blind eye towards human nature like most people do is what keeps me sane…. “that’s my anti-drug”

As for Griffin’s social experiment, don’t you think that it’s different, both in scope and in kind than the behavior of the above asshats? C’mon, guy. If you go — as a rational adult — to a party dressed as another ethnicity, it is generally meant as a parody/satire, as opposed to a respectful homage. Plus, it also generally means that you couldn’t be buggered about what the actual people you’re parodying would think about it, or otherwise, you’d “err on the side of caution”, and choose a less polarizing costume… because Halloween — as a cultural, secular celebration — is supposed to be about fun and candy, not spite.

Dana: You put up a good argument. As I said to Lyonside, I respect you and your opinion as well. I must say, however, that I do not fully agree.

As far as the “polarizing costume” is concerned, I have yet to see any evidence that the guys in the top picture DON’T respect ‘gangsta’ culture. Perhaps this is the way they ‘feel’ they should look. Is there any proof this was taken at Halloween? One of my old roommates had a whole bunch of transexual friends. There would be dudes over dressed up like women. Are they mocking women by attempting to look like one in every possible manner? I’m not saying that the top photo is entirely rational, but I can’t really say I quite understand transexualism, either. (Is that the right conjugation?) But, hey, what they do is their business.

I mean, this is an awfully isolated photo, with no given back-story. And while it is entirely possible that it MAY have been done with malice, I am not going to judge ANYONE without proof beyond a reasonable doubt. So unless I can see some video clip of these guys actually saying something otherwise, I’m going to take the less judgmental path.

See, what you’re saying is, they’re wrong no matter what. What I’m saying is, they might be wrong, but since we do not have the FULL STORY, we cannot be the judge and jury to condemn them.

This has been fun, but I’m getting tired of the debate. I think I’ve said all that I really have to say, so I’m not sure that I will be coming back. If you want to take that as a win, be my guest. I’m not keeping score. Thank you both, Dana and Lyonside, for being relevant and intelligent. I hope that next time I am in a debate with either of you (if ever again), that I can share your opinion on whatever topic is brought up. You both make very strong arguments.

I just thought I would say to the person who claimed that white people are “jealous” of black people you sound like an ABSOLUTE IDIOT. There is not ONE white person in this country who think “oh damn…why did I have to be white?…I hate being the race with the highest rate of mental disorders…that just sucks.” Claiming that whites are jealous is a simple tactic to make yourself feel better, the same reason why ANYONE is racist. Okay, so white people have a higher rate of mental disorders? We also have the most CEO’s, the only race to ever enter presidency, and we have longer life expectancy, just for starters. You want to compare statistics? Lets do it. If we are basing our “jealousies” off of statistics, I don’t think anyone is going to choose to be black over white. No individual should want to be any other race, and to suggest so is JUST as ignorant, racist, and obnoxious as the pictures above.

Black face, yellow face and red face are ALWAYS racist when done by a white person.

The ‘original intent’ of BF was to mock and demonize African-American people, thus when whites do it today it is still racist. I hope that one day BF is made into a hate crime.

White people always seem to look at the ‘intent’ but Black people look at the ‘end result’ and that is, BF done today, conjures up ‘memories’ of the original intent.

A few years ago, Prince Harry wore a Nazi uniform to a costume party and the Jewish community took offence, I am sure that Prince Harry did not “INTEND” to cause pain, but the Jewish community looked at the “end result” and were hurt.

Only a white racist of the highest order would wear BF, and it is even more sad and ironic when a Jewish person wears it.

Remember, BF is (((ALWAYS))) racist, there is no harmless way a white person can use it.

What about the movie White Chicks?

There is NO racist history behind WF, that film was all in good fun, it grossed 77 million and there were NO protests from white people, white face does NOT equal black face.

This is inherently racist. And the fact that people would bring up “White Chicks” and “Chapelle” as justification for this is EQUALLY racist. I mean, yall are straight perpetuating more racism with the responses. EVERYBODY NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. Quit blaming others. ANYONE who found Chapelle/White Chicks funny, is helping to perpetuate the racism. Just as anyone sayin these photos is just “having fun” is doing the same thing.

White people need to take responsibility for what their relatives did in the past (and still do today), and realize racism STILL exists today…. and that black folks are gonna find it offensive EVERYTIME it happens. And rather than pull this BS, they need to “STOP LAUGHING” at Dave Chapelle and ACTIVELY protest against how racist it is. Its some bullcrap to sit here and have a majority of people laugh at it, then turn around and try to find it racist.

And black folks need to take responsibility for what happened to us, and stop letting the events of yesterday govern what we do today. I’m sure the majority of those white CEO’s earned that position. But do you really believe EVERY black person has the same oppurtunity. I didn’t say none did. Plenty of blacks have oppurtunities and disregard them. But there are SOME who don’t have the proper resources.

2)Of course the life ecpectancy is longer.

Once again, some blacks don’t have the same oppurtunities. That includes for health and living in an enviroment/neighborhood that isn’t detrimental.

3)You bet only white males have been presidents.

Need I say much for this comment? The majority of Americans would tolerate a minority president. Most would even vote for one. But it has taken some time. Now? Okay. Even 40 years ago or more? Uh huh, yeah, I don’t think so.

Basically, anyone can be racist, not just whites. I see it all the time, and from non-whites. Though I am black and even in today’s world have experienced racism firsthand, I never claim that my problems are all due to white intolerance, because I would be lying.

I don’t like playing victim, so I don’t pull the race card everytime something doesn’t do my way.
